Since its launch in July of last year, Google+ has attracted over 400 million members to share, post, +1, and comment on its platform. However, the social network still has a great deal questions surrounding it. For small businesses one of the most important questions is, “How does it affect my ranking in Google?”

SEO firm, TastyPlacement, did their own study to see how social activity from Twitter, Facebook, and Google+ affected search rankings over a period of time. The study found that increasing Google+ followers on a site’s business page increased Google position by 14.63, which was more than with any other social interaction.

But with limited interactions on the Google+ site (as compared to Facebook) is it worth your time and effort?  We think so.  We recommended that your small business get a Google+ account and utilize it by placing a +1 button on your website. Building a website with content that is relevant and can be shared is critical. Even if you are not posting a lot of content directly to Google+ (as you would with Facebook or Twitter), signs are that Google is using +1 data from your website as an indicator for its search engine.
